How we killed creativity and now trying to get it back

Some people say “why create?”, “What is the point of creating when you not at level of top masters?” I would say “Why not to create?” and secondly if you love cakes and still wonder how your mum made this apple pie would you deprive yourself from eating it because it was not baked at some kind of “top, posh bakery”? The point of creating has really very little to do with human concept of commercialised “success”. Creating is a different dimension, level of existing that simply doesn’t fit our pre-programmed by social expectations minds. ...

Denying ourselves right to create in free and explorative way is often the reason for losing opportunities for self-expression. Lack of self-expression in a long terms works as a tool of mental disconnection. Creating doesn’t equal just arts. It could take many other forms from writing, gardening to knitting. Sometimes I am scared how much creating is taken out from our culture. And what is worse we go ahead with ideas of depriving ourselves from creating. We buy ready meals, pre-selected clothes, all start using templates to the point when we forget how to make a simple thing! At the same time the world is feeling the desire and cravings to go back to some old ways when our brain was not fully fed with these ready things. People start knitting, baking, cooking, growing vegetables, making their own clothes, drawing in notebooks and much more. It is like two opposite winds trying to go through our brains-we are given it all in ready- made industrial world and at the same time we are going for opposite to bring that aliveness back. It sometimes makes me smile how much our world is living on irony of absurd. We have high tech gadgets allowing us to track everything from moods to steps and at the same time people pay money to go to old fashioned journaling class to…well mainly use a pen and paper again! The same happens in art world- digital paintings are unbelievably beautiful but still many would die for a day spend in a studio wearing a paint stained apron and breathe paint smelling air, where brushes are having wooden handles and canvases are made from linen not screens. Personally I believe it is all happening because we humans are seeing now the effects of that disconnection we made on our own request. We wanted quicker, easier, mess free, time commitment free, hassle free, on the go. Creativity doesn’t work like that and I am grateful it does not! Creativity is a human ability to engage with the world and ourselves on principles of wonder, making, reflecting, and daring to fail… Creativity doesn’t talk about success but more about process and how we are able to loose ourselves in it. And of course the biggest risk and nature of creativity is desire to noncompliance! That is where many faced with it will simply give up. Standing out, doing your own thing is never easy…. Wishing you more creative and less ready made moments !...
