Master builders

When my daughter is given a set of Lego there is a creative battle in the house. Her mother (me!) never wants to follow any instructions to build what is showed on the box...and Lego doll's hair may be replaced with horse's tail. People with that mindset are called in Lego movie "master builders" as they build from their imagination, heart and passion rather than instructions. Are you one of them? Visual art is watched outside but comes from inside. The process requires a journey from what is deeply rooted in imagination to what we can actually see- colours, shapes, lines, the whole visual aspect. Making art that becomes your healing process is really about what is going on in your mind rather than what comes out. If you treat your creative process as something personal and having impact on your mental state, then start the journey from that direct source- your mind. Become the master builder...

Keeping free spirit alive

Everyone was born with some sort of free spirit- something unique in their behaviour, personality, something specific just to that one person. There are as many styles of art journaling as people and as many expressions as life stories. Sometimes it takes years or decades to "return to yourself"- to awake that spark that has been sleeping or simply uncovered. That free spirit gets covered with lots of stuff and majority comes from others but also ourselves - believes and preconceptions. I have a privilege to meet some women who joined my project of art journaling and admitted they have not created for years, some of them just started digging into their subconscious mind of past and presence. Their free spirit simply awakes, forms and becomes alive. How is your free spirit doing?

Subconscious Collage- Episode 4 - Identity

I find it hard to believe that it is already Episode 4 of Subconscious Collage project! This time I am challenging our perception of Identity-the concept that we have a certain, solid identity  that goes with us to grave. Yes there are some core aspects of identity- we come from some places and cultures and that is definitely shaping the whole process. However naturally as humans we also grow and change, we start as children searching for answers and gradually find out through the course of life that some will never have answers.

Visual language

You may look at some art work and "get it" or stare at hundreds other pictures and forget them next minute. Some visual content is just hitting our heart or simply not. They may be artists who paint one thing over and over for 20 years and never have enough, others are attached to colour, develop specific style. It is all about visual language- that language with no sound but stronger than a shout. Language that exists in you and maybe wants to scream- do you know how to find it?

Art Journaling with...yourself

Art Journaling is becoming a stronger trend every year and more artists are offering new approach or insight into it. Number of techniques and supplies used is limitless and for the beginners is may even look terrifying with so much information to take on. My personal journey into art journaling went through different phases but somehow always leads to the same point- making it personal self-discovery and journey into places less travelled in my mind. Art journaling with yourself is like opening the book of possibilities, asking yourself questions and looking where creativity is taking you. Instead of that trend of creating "pretty, colourful and sweet" pages there is raw emotions, unexpected feelings and your visual emotional baggage. Give it a go...get to know yourself more!

Quiet heart

We all know that saying "Listen to your heart- do what is says"- easier said than done of course! But one thing is listening to your heart and going through struggles of following it and another listening to your heart and not hearing anything! There are moments and situations when even our heart talk, the inner self doesn't speak, when we do not know what is says and where to go. I call my creative activity "artlysing"- the process when creation of art is doing its own work "artlysing" us- the creators. A little bit strange but I work on the concept that it is not always who creates in charge- kind of reverse of the whole process. We also can learn to listen to what art talks to us. This is a channel that enables me to hear what is too quiet to shout, what comes from a very, very quiet heart...So why we are not able to hear our own hearts sometimes?

Subconscious Collage- Intro Episode is here!

So after almost killing my family, hitting my PC with some seriously heavy objects, going crazy and yelling at video editor program I decided to release this perfectly imperfect Intro Episode to Subconscious Collage for Art Journaling. This is the welcome and beginning showing you my uneven nose, meeting my duck, talking about messiness, randomness and some more randomness. We are entering the area of doing something from our soul and heart and showing what is not always obvious...Entry if you dare...

Eye-opening inspiration

People often ask creatives where and how do they find an inspiration or how to stay inspired. Well let me tell you that in my case there is no hypnotising staring for hours in art galleries (I woul be nice to have that time by the way!) or sitting and waiting for the muse to appear. Life itself (yes that sometimes rubbish, problematic, depressive but also joyful life) becomes pure and full inspiration! Daily struggle, people we know, people we watch, enemies and friends, our own struggles, nature, journeys- it all is a part of massive impulse to create. Yes there are tons of artwork as well so generously shared on social media that feed creativity - but that is not the only source.

Importance of playfulness

I struggle with seriousness on all levels. Life seems so much easier to bear when there is some type of distance to yourself, play, fun and simple playfulness...In days filled with constant demands to behave like that and that, meet certain expectations and all that...where is the play? We lost the ability we possessed as kids where the joy of simple play and laughter accompanied the daily life. Creativity and playfulness are close sisters. Through playfulness we can let creativity fly in unlimited directions and thanks to creativity playfulness becomes meaningful.
